Welcome to the Wonderful World of Whimsical Words

Hello Reader!

For my first post, I wanted to just give a little lowdown on the goal of this blog. Regularly, I will post here to share stories. The focus will, of course, be on folklore: legend, myth, fairy tale, and fables. However, on occasion, I will share other stories or poems from other genres. I’ll give a little summary of the story and then focus on a bit of analysis as well as some feels, you know, how the story feels or makes me feel.

I want to create a space where I can highlight stories that are less told, and also those from emerging writers. When I can, I’ll include the story or link to the free full text. When I can’t, I’ll link to where you can purchase the text.

I will be focusing on prose, so short stories, novels, novellas, and flash fiction. But I will also include poems, podcasts, and artwork at times.

Finally, I will also use this to share some of my own stories as well as to post mini-lessons on writing creatively. This blog is a place to share stories and share the craft and art of writing. At least, that’s my hope.

This all came about because as I dived deeper and deeper into folklore and stories, I realized that there’s not really a space that collects these and shares these. Poetry has the Poetry Foundation (and many others), but there’s not really a place like that for stories, so I thought, “Why not?”

Well, okay, there are websites that collect folklore (Sacred Texts is a nice place to start), but I wanted a bit more, so I thought maybe so do others. Maybe I’m wrong, but still…it’ll be fun to have a regular writing project like this where I can challenge myself.

Plus, I teach creative writing and would love to share little tidbits about how to write creatively to support the literary community at large.

And I didn’t want to just have a website about just me. I wanted it to be a place for the literary community, too. A place to share and learn and practice and play. So I figured a blog sharing stories was a nice addition.

Right then, that’s it for this first post. More soon…

Onward!
